Qualcomm every year launches various CPU ranging for lower end device to Flagship device, for 2018 the flagship processor by Qualcomm was Snapdragon 845 and in 2019 we see Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 as a flagship CPU. It is the company’s current-generation flagship chipset which powers most of the high-end flagship smartphones launched this year Such as Galaxy S series, OnePlus 7, SONY Xperia Series, Lg G8 Thinq and etc. Recently, the company released two new upper mid-range chipsets – Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 730 and 730G.
As in 2019 Snapdragon 855 SoC was launched and which is based on 7nm technology and capable of 5G network with Qualcomm X50 modem. Now, the company has reportedly started working on its next-generation flagship chipset, which is expected to be named Snapdragon 865. The SD855 had an internal model number SM8150 and was codenamed “Hana” and if the reports are to be believed, then its successor has the model number SM8250.
The codename of the upcoming flagship chipset is said to be “Project Kona”. Kona is a name referring to the Hawaiian Islands. Interestingly, Qualcomm has been hosting a Qualcomm Tech Summit in Hawaii to present its high-end processors in December.
The Snapdragon 865 processor will come with support for LPDDR5 RAM and integrated 5G modem means like SD 855 the smartphone manufacturer do not need to put X50 modem in their device for 5g network, the new Snapdragon 865 SoC will come with embedded 5G modem.
The high-end chip for Windows devices Snapdragon 8cx is still using LPDDR4X. Qualcomm already has samples of the new SM8250 internally and is testing them in conjunction with the LPDDR5 memory, leaving it open who the supplier is.
Snapdragon 865 will come in two variant
Recently, the news arrived that unlike all year flagship Qualcomm will make two models its 2019 Flagship chipset one with 5G modem embedded in it and other which will be regular cheaper version without 5G compatibility, but in it 5G can work if manufacturer put X50 modem for 5G support.
As, i was not astonished when this news roll out as 5G is still very far and not ready to come soo early but the companies are ready with their master piece of hardware so pushing 5G models when there is no 5G support for extra cost does not make sense. Hence, it is a smart move taken by Qualcomm by understanding the market well and thoroughly.
However, by the last quarter of 2019 we will see the launch of Snapdragon 865 by Qualcomm. Stay tuned to this post more as it will updated as more info we will receive.
