Realme is a company that was originally formed out of Chinese smartphone giant Oppo to specifically target the Indian smartphone market. Devices like the Realme 3 have demonstrated impressive design and performance at low prices, and the company has already become one of the most popular smartphone brands in India.
Realme has announced the Realme X, a phone that the company describes as the first entry in its first line of flagship devices. It’s by far the most powerful and spec-laden smartphone yet to come out of the new brand, but it maintains an aggressively low price point.
The Realme X isn’t a truly high-end phone, but it’s still pretty potent. It has a Snapdragon 710 processor, a 6.53-inch 19.5:9 1080p OLED screen with no notch, a 48-megapixel camera with Sony’s IMX586 sensor, a 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera, an in-display fingerprint sensor, a headphone jack, a 3,765mAh battery, and Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging. among other things. Alongside the Realme X, the company also announced the Realme X Youth Edition, which is none other than a rebranded Realme 3 Pro.

Design and Display
The Realme X brings a number of firsts for the company. For starters, it is the first Realme phone to sport a notch-free, full-screen display. There is no waterdrop notch or punch-hole on the display, allowing the phone to offer a 91.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The phone sports a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2340×1080) Samsung AMOLED display and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is also the first Realme phone to come with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.
The Realme X is protected by a premium-looking 3D glasstic panel on the back. The flagship comes in gradient blue and gradient white colours.
Realme X is powered by a 2.2Ghz Snapdragon 710 chipset paired with Adreno 616 GPU and 8GB of RAM, much like the Realme 3 Pro. It will be offered with 128GB of internal storage with support for storage expandability up to 256GB. It also comes with Hyperboost 2.0 to improve performance and Gameboost 2.0 to improve gaming performance by reducing drops in framerate.
Reakme X has dual camera setup on the back includes a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 1.6-micron pixels and 6P lens for high resolution pictures and a 5MP secondary depth camera. The camera also comes with Nightscape long exposure mode for improved low light shots and Chroma Boost for better HDR shots. The Realme X also supports AI scene recognition and 960fps super slow-motion recording.
The Realme X is the company’s first phone with a pop-up camera that rises from the top middle of the frame and takes about 0.74 seconds to pop up. The mechanism houses a 16MP f/2.0 selfie sensor to take bright and sharp selfies.
Battery & Other Features
Like the Realme 3 Pro, the Realme X also supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging, which means charging the device to 100 per cent should happen in about 80 minutes. The device houses a 3,765mAh battery. The latest VOOC technology also maintains fast charging even while playing games. The Realme X also supports Dolby Atmos sound. It ships with Android Pie with ColorOS 6.
In addition to the Realme X, the company also announced the Realme X Lite. This phone brings a 6.3-inch FHD+ Dewdrop display, gradient glasstic design, Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB of RAM and 4,045mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 support. If these specs sound familiar that’s because the Realme X Lite is actually a rebranded Realme 3 Pro.
Realme X, Realme X Lite price and Availability
The Realme X price in China starts at CNY 1,499 (approx Rs 15,300). For the 4GB + 64GB variant, CNY 1,599 (approx Rs 16,300) for the 6GB + 64GB variant and CNY 1,799 (approx Rs 18,300) for the 8GB + 128GB model.
The Realme X Lite has also been announced as a rebranded Realme 3 Pro. Its price in China starts at CNY 1,199 (approx Rs 12,000) for the 4GB + 64GB base variant and goes up to CNY 1,499 (approx Rs 15,000) for the 6GB + 128GB version.
The Realme X will go on sale through Realme’s own site and various other Chinese online channels on May 20th. It’ll likely come to India at a later date.
Realme X Availability in India
Realme X is first smartphone from Realme with pop-up selfie camera, it is set to launch in India soon. The smartphone was recently launched in China with price starting at Rs 15,300 approximately. Ahead of the official launch, Realme has revealed the India pricing of the phone. It also pointed out that the India model may have a different set of specifications.
In a tweet Realme CEO Madhav Sheth said that Realme X India version will be priced around Rs 18,000. It is worth noting that Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 Pro and Poco F1 are among the top phones in India under Rs 20,000.
“Realme X may not necessarily launch at the same specs in India. We are planning to have an #realmeXIndian version and pricing maybe around 18k. Apart from Garlic and Onion, we will also have one more special variant for India…” Madhav said.
